Local wedding disc jockey extends himself to his peer group and offers DJ Lessons to his crosstown colleague Luke Renchan Jr of Lukes DJ Service . Ra-Mu would like to see all Rhode Island DJ/MC’s enhance their disc jockey skill sets in 2010 and 2011.

Apr 11, 2010 – Rhode Island Wedding DJ Ra-Mu from Ra-Mu and the Crew recently offered Luke Renchan Jr. of Lukes DJ Service DJ Lessons.

“I’m a fan”, says Ra-Mu. “I think that Luke has all the potential to be one of the biggest music moguls in the state of Rhode Island and beyond. That is why I want to teach him everything that I know so he can solidify that position.”

Today’s wedding DJ must not only be a great MC but also a great DJ in this highly competitive market. Being good in just one of the aforementioned categories would have good enough in prior decades. The modern bride wants to see a hybrid of both a polished MC and a talented “spinner of tunes”.

“WHATS UP WITH THAT?” IS GOING TO BE A NEW TAGLINE THAT I AM GOING TO BE USING WELL INTO FISCAL 2010.  Having been in the wedding industry more many years,  I wanted to take this opportunity to shed some light on some of the unsettling things that I have been observing in the business of weddings.

Many couples are walking into adj or wedding vendor consultation and treated like they were buying a value meal at McDonald’s.  There seems to be the theme of “Supersize all Brides and squeeze every nickel out of them”.  Let’s start with the infamous classic base package which includes “not much”.  For DJ’s, it might include a speaker system, music, and if you’re lucky, the DJ might throw in a microphone for free…lol.

Then there is the slightly better package-let’s call this package B.  This package is a just little better.  It might boast of a second professional DJ who is most likely someone’s cousin, girlfriend, or brother-in-law.  Maybe a second sound system consisting of an ipod and grandma’s speaker.

Moving right a long, there exists package C.  This package may include lights, a subwoofer, or a video montage.  Maybe, some basic uplighting or nicer speakers that should have been included in package A.  This package is considerably more expensive and I’m sure that whoever is in front of you selling will inform you that this is by far the most popular package-popular to their bank account.

Package D is the premier package and if you are a bride and groom with impeccable taste, this package and the package price is tailored for you.  The price difference between package A and package D is equivalent to the cost of the engagement ring in most cases.

I think you get my point and if their is a package E or G, just run for the hills when you can.  In my opinion, most DJ’s are overpaid.  There are not too many careers in which you eat steak or chicken on the job, play some tunes, make some announcements, and make Dr. or Lawyer money for the 5 or 6 hours that your there.

Ra-Mu and the Crew has committed 2009 and beyond to offering more and continuing to stay away from package X.  We have one package and that is “package we want to be good and do a great job”.  Call or email if you’re interested in not being upsold this wedding season.

Mass wedding DJ and Rhode Island wedding DJ Ra-Mu like the Bose Speakers at weddings, but does NOT believe in charging extra for good sound. Charging extra for the Bose speakers at a wedding is like a restaurant charging extra for silverware.

Local Rhode Island star DJ Ra-Mu says “Charging extra for the Bose speakers at a wedding is like a restaurant charging extra for silverware”.  Many wedding DJ’s like myself own the Bose L1 Speaker system.  ”What’s not to like?” asks Ra-Mu.  ”The speakers look cool looking.  I originally bought them to be BIG TIME.  Three years ago, not too many people had them.  Now, everyone and their grandfather has them.  It amazes me to hear that DJ’s want to charge extra for them.  I wear a belt to most of my events,  I don’t charge extra for that”, says Ra-Mu.  ”If some DJ’s are charging extra for the Bose, what would they bring to a function if their clients decline this exorbitant charge.  Would they hum the music?”  ”I’m not sure”, laughs Ra-Mu.

What’s next ponders Ra-Mu.  ”Maybe next month some DJ wants to charge extra for wearing underwear”.  That’s got to worth at least a couple of hundred bucks.
