With 2010 Still Being A Recession Year, Modern Brides Should Be On The Lookout For Dead Giveaways To A Rip-Off Vendor That Will Ruin Your Wedding Reception. Below Are Ten Things That Overpriced Wedding DJ’s Don’t Want The Modern Bride To Know.
Apr 19, 2010 – 10. Some Overpriced Wedding DJ’s Kick-Back A Substantial Amount Of Money To The Facility/Country Club That Recommends Them. You’d Recommend Them Too If They Paid You $500 For Every Wedding You Give Them.
9. Uplighting-Today’s Popular Trend. The Upsold Cost Of Uplighting Often Times Is More Than What The DJ Originally Spent On All Of Their Lighting….The Average Uplight Fixture is About $150-$200 to Own.
8. The Overhead Is High For A Company That Contracts Several DJ’s. Often Times Overpriced Rates Are Only To Recoup Expenses Like Lease and Administrative Help.
7. 95% Of Most Overpriced Wedding DJ’s Are Using Free DJ Sofware or Programs Like Itunes To Play Your Music. Moral Of The Story: You Could Have Done It Yourself Sometimes If The DJ is Mediocre.
6. Nobody Is Buying CD’s Anymore Which Means That Most Of Your Overpriced Fee Is Going Towards Some Bozo To Make A Few Announcements And To Press A Couple Of Buttons.
5. Monagrammed Initials-Another One Of Today’s Popular Trends. Monagrammed Initials Have a Wholesale Cost of $20. They Are Usually Upsold For $300 and Up By Most Overpriced Wedding DJ’s. Moral Of The Story: Most DJ’s Should Offer It For Free.
4. Most Overpriced Wedding DJ’s Are Terrible DJ’s But Good Salesmen. Although You May Feel Comfortable Signing A Contract, Your Stomach Will Turn When 90% Of Your Guests Take Off After Dinner.
3. Most Overpriced Wedding DJ’s Don’t Have Any Video Footage Because They Haven’t Had Enough Good Gigs. Scary But True!
2. Facebook Business Fan Pages Consist Of Grandma, Uncle Buck, Little Sister Susie, and Everyone Else They Went To Elementary School With.
1. That They Are Really Not All That Good! They Really Don’t Want You To Know This.

The Classic DJ Upsell: “What’s Up With That?”
by Ramu on Nov.05, 2009, under Weddings
| Boston and RI wedding DJ discuss the tactics that some dj’s are using to sell to their clients. Many DJ’s come off as used car salesmen in their sales approach leaving potential clients with a huge invoice and a bitter taste in their mouth. |
“WHATS UP WITH THAT?” IS GOING TO BE A NEW TAGLINE THAT I AM GOING TO BE USING WELL INTO FISCAL 2010. Having been in the wedding industry more many years, I wanted to take this opportunity to shed some light on some of the unsettling things that I have been observing in the business of weddings.
Many couples are walking into adj or wedding vendor consultation and treated like they were buying a value meal at McDonald’s. There seems to be the theme of “Supersize all Brides and squeeze every nickel out of them”. Let’s start with the infamous classic base package which includes “not much”. For DJ’s, it might include a speaker system, music, and if you’re lucky, the DJ might throw in a microphone for free…lol.
Then there is the slightly better package-let’s call this package B. This package is a just little better. It might boast of a second professional DJ who is most likely someone’s cousin, girlfriend, or brother-in-law. Maybe a second sound system consisting of an ipod and grandma’s speaker.
Moving right a long, there exists package C. This package may include lights, a subwoofer, or a video montage. Maybe, some basic uplighting or nicer speakers that should have been included in package A. This package is considerably more expensive and I’m sure that whoever is in front of you selling will inform you that this is by far the most popular package-popular to their bank account.
Package D is the premier package and if you are a bride and groom with impeccable taste, this package and the package price is tailored for you. The price difference between package A and package D is equivalent to the cost of the engagement ring in most cases.
I think you get my point and if their is a package E or G, just run for the hills when you can. In my opinion, most DJ’s are overpaid. There are not too many careers in which you eat steak or chicken on the job, play some tunes, make some announcements, and make Dr. or Lawyer money for the 5 or 6 hours that your there.
Ra-Mu and the Crew has committed 2009 and beyond to offering more and continuing to stay away from package X. We have one package and that is “package we want to be good and do a great job”. Call or email if you’re interested in not being upsold this wedding season.

Boston Wedding DJ And RI Wedding DJ Ra-Mu Says To Book Your DJ Early To Avoid A Lame Wedding!
by Ramu on Sep.14, 2009, under Weddings
New England Wedding DJ Ra-Mu and the Crew encourages new england brides to book their entertainment early. Music can make or break the party, so why get the next available guy when you can reserve the best.
After the vows, thousands of new england brides have been polled yielding these statistical results:
•72% of all brides say they would have spent more time choosing their reception entertainment.
•Almost 100% say they would have spent more of their budget on the entertainment.
•During wedding planning, brides say their highest priority is their attire, followed by the reception site and caterer – reception entertainment is among the least of their priorities. Yet, within one week after their reception, 78% say they would have made the entertainment their highest priority.
•When asked, 81% of guests say what they remember most about a wedding is the entertainment.
•65% of all couples that chose a band to entertain at their wedding, said, if they had it to do over again, they would have chosen a disc jockey
I was recently asked by one of my peers about the last wedding I attended. Being in this industry, I probably haven’t attended a wedding as a guest in over 10 years. When asked about what I ate that evening, I sarcastically replied “probably chicken”. Now the moment of truth. When asked about the DJ that was playing that night, I vividly remember how terrible he was. It’s amazing that even after 10 years, the memory seems sharp when it comes to certain aspects of wedding receptions.
“I can’t imagine the hectic schedule of planning that brides must go through”, says Ra-Mu. ”First they’ve got to book the hall, then the limo, flowers, photographer, cake, videographer, etc. Music is one of those details that might get lost in the shuffle. Most of my brides know that the deejay is key ingredient to get people to stay and have a good time. Guests are deciding in the 1st five minutes whether they want to invest five or six hours with the bride and groom or catch last call at the local pub after dinner. A good DJ can ensure crowd retention while a bad DJ will ensure fun prevention(that rhymes intentionally….lol).”
“So book your DJ/Entertainment early or you might get stuck with some guy that has been wearing the same tux since 1972. If you wait too long, the DJ that shows up may be playing the chicken dance and Kenny G’s greatest hits all night long to an audience of tables and chairs”.

Boston Wedding DJ And RI Wedding DJ Ra-Mu Says No Wedding DJ is Worth Paying $2000 or More
by Ramu on Sep.02, 2009, under Weddings
| DJ Ra-Mu of Ra-Mu and the Crew tells New England brides to shop wisely for wedding entertainment and save some money for the honeymoon. Price and talent don’t always equate. The current economic recession has brought the price of electronics, gas, and home values to a stunning low. ”It has always bewildered me that when a bride whispers the word wedding, the price usually quadruples” says Ra-Mu. ”People are getting laid off left and right, foreclosures are way up, but some guy in a tux on a Saturday night playing itunes from his computer has a fee that would make most hedge fund managers jealous” chuckles Ra-Mu. In a era that sees the wedding industry in turmoil, many dj’s/entertainers are rationalizing that they are worth the big bucks. Armed with a laptop and a pair of average speakers, many of these dj’s/entertainers stand behind their price with cliche sales buzz phrases such as “you get what you pay for” or “our company caters to high end clients” or “I cant believe people are falling for this”.
As a 15 year veteran of the entertainment industry(hard to believe that I’ve been doing this since 1994), I have seen many brides fall for the trap in which they believe more expensive translates to somehow better. The aftermath is that many DJ’s have laughed all the way to the bank leaving much to be desired at the reception. Generally, most couples are so busy with the honeymoon and getting back to regular life, that a mediocre job by the DJ is often tolerated. Perhaps this exorbitant fee that some DJ’s charge is explained better by what I hear in hush conversations throughout the industry: “I’m never going to see the couple again so why not charge them as much as possible” said one well known DJ. “If they can afford to have their wedding at that venue, they can afford to pay me the big bucks to be away from my family for another weekend evening” said another well known DJ. “The cake costs $1800 so why should I be any less?” said another one of the industry’s finest. With comments like the one’s above, one wonders how much passion and committment their is to the success of each of their client’s weddings. It seems that some DJ’s are so price driven that they forget about doing a good job and going above and beyond the call of duty. “Monetary compensation is one of the last things that I like to discuss” says DJ Ra-Mu. ”Making the customer at ease and packing the dance floor come 1st. Getting paid for what I love to do is just a bonus”. If you are looking for professional high-end entertainment without the astronomical cost or pretense, call Ra-Mu and the Crew today and we look forward to seeing you at your upcoming wedding reception. Boston Wedding DJ And RI Wedding DJ Ra-Mu To Raise The Bar For All Wedding Disc Jockeys/Entertainers
by Ramu on Aug.17, 2009, under Weddings
DJ Ra-Mu of Ra-Mu and the Crew ushers in a new era of passion, fun, and polish in a wedding entertainment industry that has glorfied overpriced simplicity and undelivered promises. The wedding entertainment industry has a new face of succes.
Many 2010 and 2011 brides are currently searching for entertainment options for their upcoming wedding receptions and when they call Ra-Mu and the Crew, they are greeted on the phone by someone who refuses to be pretentious and has a vested interest in the overall success of the event. To many wedding disc jockeys, the next call or email from a bride is just a path to their next paycheck. For DJ Ra-Mu, it is a journey leading up to the bride’s smile(and everyone else in the room) at the end of the reception.
“All brides should be doing these three things” says Ra-Mu. “If they don’t do these three things, they may be on a collision course for a wedding reception disaster. First, all brides should meet with their potential dj/entertainer in person. For out of state brides, perhaps meet with prospective dj’s when you’re in town looking at venues or other vendors. If you don’t meet with your dj, you will run the risk of “bait and switch” on your special day and you won’t get to to build a rapport with your dj(the right fit between client and entertainer is a big key to the succes of the reception). Second, brides should either see a video of the dj(preferably at multiple weddings) or get permission to see a live performance. The latter may be tough because weddings should not be places for auditions for future business, but anyone that plans on being a dj for more than 6 months should have video footage to show a client. Taking the dj’s word that he/she is good or a “slick” website may not keep your guests at your reception all night. Lastly, make sure that the dj is bringing more than just a laptop and a pair of cheap speakers. ”I can’t tell you how many dj’s I know who charge top dollar and bring the bare minimum. In my opinion, $1500-$2000 is alot of money for someone to run Itunes all night” says Ra-Mu. Make sure that you know exactly what the dj is bringing and ask the appropriate questions. Are they providing a ceremony system, cocktail hour system, cordless mic, subwoofer, lighting, etc. ?
Studies have shown that the modern bride’s number goal for her and her guests is to have fun. Elegance and professionalism should be a given considering that it is a wedding; but after the toasts have been given, 1st dances are done, and the meal has concluded, will people stay and dance? Will people be talking about your reception for years to come or will your wedding reception just be a prelude to “last call” at the local bar in the area?
Ra-Mu and the Crew and DJ Ra-Mu are committed to making sure that people stay at your event. “Crowd retention is key” says Ra-Mu. ”If you have 200 guests and only 9 are left at the end of the night, the dj did not do his job correctly. We are hired at a decent rate to ensure that people do stay, are entertained, and that the bride and groom are happy”.

Boston Wedding DJ and RI Wedding DJ Ra-Mu to Have Banner Year in 2010
by Ramu on Jul.13, 2009, under Weddings
Boston Wedding DJ and Rhode Island(RI) Wedding DJ Ra-Mu is quickly becoming the “it” wedding dj for the modern new england bride with innovative and cutting edge techniques to make receptions memorable for years to come.
It’s 10pm on a Friday night at Belle Mer, an oceanside wedding event venue in Newport, RI, and 170 energetic guests are glued to the dance floor listening to the pulsating beats of Rhode Island’s best wedding dj Ra-Mu from Ra-Mu and the Crew. The crowd is comprised of mixed ages however they eagerly await to hear the next song and a euphoric roar erupts when “It Takes Two” by Rob Base blairs from the DJ’s sound system. The DJ setup is stylish and trendy complete with uplighting and two plasma screens on either side of the dj booth.
“I think that modern brides are ready for a change and might not want to relive their parents wedding. Weddings are a musical journey that should reflect both the musical tastes of the older and younger guests. Generally it’s the younger guests that stay till the end and they might not want to hear “the twist” or the “grease megamix”. Many modern brides want to hear more music from the last two decades instead of the 50s and 60s.” said DJ Ra-Mu
In an age where the ipod is rapidly competing against mediocre wedding dj’s , Ra-Mu and the Crew are creating a new brand of wedding entertainer. Their reason for success is based on keeping the energy level high without any props or party hats. Instead, photo montages, video love stories, club style dj’ing keep guests entertained for the duration of the reception. Ra-Mu takes pride in making sure all guests stay until the end of the wedding.
“2009 has been great and 2010 looks to be even better. It’s nice to feel as is every wedding is the best ever. I bumped into a former bride and groom this past weekend and they gave me a big hug and even bought me coffee. They said that people were still talking about their wedding reception that occured during the summer of 2002. That’s a great feeling to know that we have continued to do right by our customers.” said Ra-Mu
